Provillus ingredients clinical studies revealed

To finally unveil the myths surrounding much-talked-of hair loss remedy, known in media as Provillus, I decided to conduct my own investigation. I started from the clinical research of the ingredients contained in the "Provillus for men".

Saw Palmetto or Serenoa Repens fruit
The DHT or Dihydrotestosterone is a male sex hormone that is an active form of testosterone, formed from testosterone in bodily tissue. Testosterone metabolism occurs in primary cultures of human prostate epithelial cells. Excessive DHT metabolite of testosterone is known to cause excess hair loss in men. Clinical research shows that Saw Palmetto inhibits (deters, holds back) the formation of the Testostrone metabolites in men's body.

Stinging Nettle or Urtica Dioica

The clinical studies show that Stinging Nettle extract inhibits (deters) enzymes as 5 alpha reductase This enzyme is known to cause testosterone to convert to DHT (see above). It is primarily the DHT metabolite of testosterone that is known to cause excess hair loss at the top of the head.
Another independent clinical research indicates that the extract of nettle root partially blocked the action of two enzymes involved in the body's production of dihydrotestosterone and estrogen. The laboratory study showed that nettle root extract was effective in inhibiting these two enzymes such as 5alpha-reductase and aromatase.
Dr. A Vogel, a Swiss herbalist who is known throughout the world and Dr. Rudolf Fritz Weiss, M.D., the dean of German herbal physicians and the author of Herbal Medicine, both recommend the Stinging Nettle for stimulating hair growth in men.

Pumpkin Cucurbita Maxima seeds
Pumpkin seeds, seed oil, and pumpkin pulp have been evaluated in limited clinical trials for medicinal actions for managing symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia and anxiety-related disorders. Cucurbita Pumpkin from another most recent Chineese study may rejuvenate beta cells and restore insulin production. If the research by scientists from the East China Normal University can be reproduced in humans, then consuming cucurbita pumpkin extract may promote regeneration of damaged pancreatic cells, boost levels of insulin-producing beta cells and raise insulin levels in the blood. But how all this pertains to men's hair loss problem. Earlier we discussed the DHT metabolite produced by men's prostate. So, in simple terms, the pumpkin seeds may have an indirect influence on production of DHT shown the the research.

Eleuthero Root (Eleutherococcus Senticosus) also known as Siberian Ginseng
Preliminary evidence from common studies suggests that eleuthero can be effective in the long-term management of various diseases of the human immune system, including HIV infection and chronic fatigue syndrome. Healthy people taking Eleuthero Root have been shown to have increased numbers of the immune cells, known as T4 lymphocytes, that have been found to decrease during HIV-infection and AIDS. Further human clinical trials are needed to confirm that eleuthero may be helpful for this disease. Eleutherococcus Senticosus has not yet been subject to clinical studies as a hair loss treatment, and there is no scientific literature to back its use for that purpose, however its purported ability to maintain hormone balance and increase energy is widely been mentioned.

Uva-Ursi (Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi root)
The Arctostaphylos uva ursi is a small woody shrub with leaves that are evergreen. Uva-ursi is similar to Eleuthero root in that it has possible anti-inflammatory actions. It may be more suited to inflammatory alopecia rather than androgenetic alopecia or pattern baldness. Uva-Ursi has been used to strengthen, soothe, and tighten irritated and inflamed tissues. The clinical studies show that it mainly works by neutralizing the acidity in urine and increasing urine flow to lessen water retention and bloating. Although no facts have yet been reported about its ability to combat genetic hair loss, some scientists suggest that reducing bloating will allow hair to expand normally.

Muira Puama P (Ptuchopetalum Olacoides)
Muira puama, called a potency wood, is a small tree that grows to 5 meters high and is native to the Brazilian Amazon and other parts of the Amazon rainforest. Clinical studies discovered the following main uses of Ptuchopetalum Olacoides as: for erectile dysfunction and impotency, as a male aphrodisiac and libido promoter, as a tonic for males, a remedy for hair loss and balding and as a central nervous system tonic and antidepressant. Properties and Actions Documented by Research also include as anti-oxidant, adaptogen, analgesic (pain-reliever),  antiulcerous,  central nervous system tonic (tones, balances, strengthens), anti-fatigue, hypotensive (lowers blood pressure), memory-enhancer, nervine (balances/calms nerves), neurasthenic (reduces nerve pain), aphrodisiac, neuroprotective (protects brain cells). It is quite often mentioned as being effective in hair loss treatment.

Biotin or Vitamin H
Vitamin H, also known as biotin, is one of the B complex group of vitamins. B vitamins mainly help the body to convert carbohydrates contained in food into glucose or human body fuel, which is used to produce energy. B complex vitamins are needed for healthy skin, good hair, eyes, and liver. Biotin, combined with zinc and topical clobetasol propionate, has also been used to combat alopecia areata in both children and adults. Used in the Provillus formula, I suppose, it may enhance the effect of other ingredients.

Another factor which often fails to take into account is a recently discovered phenomenon called synergism or synergy: the working together of two things (muscles or drugs for example) to produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects. If the combination of ingredients is wise it can enhance the overall positive effect hundredfold.
